For one night only, PEV and the Oakland Gay Men’s Chorus join forces to perform the award-winning oratorio Considering Matthew Shepard by Craig Hella Johnson.
This is a stirring multi-movement work for chorus and orchestra that was written to memorialize the brutal killing of a young gay man in 1998. With its compelling call for us to love and accept one another unconditionally, this is an important and universal work, as necessary and relevant today as it has ever been. PEV performed an excerpt from the oratorio in spring 2023 that audiences loved.
Considering Matthew Shepard incorporates multiple musical genres and poetic texts with passages from Matthew Shepard’s personal journal, his parents’ writings, newspaper reports and other primary sources.
PEV is excited to welcome Oakland Gay Men’s Chorus and artistic director Bruce Sutherland as our collaborators in this special performance.
Tickets go on sale later this season. Sign up for PEV’s newsletter (at the bottom of the page), to make sure you get first access!
