PEV ANNOUNCES PROGRAMS FOR INAUGURAL SEASON WITH DR. NICOLÁS ALBERTO DOSMAN
BERKELEY, CA (September 24, 2025) – Pacific Edge Voices (PEV), an anchor of the Bay Area musical community since 1980, announces programs for the 2025-26 season, the first under PEV’s newly appointed music director Dr. Nicolás Alberto Dosman, the group’s fourth artistic leader in 46 years.
“I am so excited to join the amazing musical community of the Bay Area,” said Dosman. “Pacific Edge Voices has a long tradition of innovative performances. For my first season, we’re going to explore the full range of choral music, from Franz Schubert to Dr. Rosephanye Powell - classical to gospel - and many points in between. I also look forward to collaborating with Deke Sharon, whose a cappella partnership with PEV last season really brought the group’s annual offering to new levels and new audiences.”
PEV’s 2025-26 Season
Holidays: PEV and Dr. Dosman celebrate the holiday season with a program of music called “Still I Rise: PEV’s Celebration of Hope” that aims to lift hearts and souls together. From Schubert’s glorious but lesser-known “Magnificat” to Rosephanye Powell’s gospel-inflected “Still I Rise,” the music in these concerts offers messages of joy and hope across many musical genres. Recent works by Whitacre, Gjielo, Hagenberg and Stroope, traditional spirituals and carols (with audience participation) and a chamber ensemble of instrumentalists round out the program. Tickets go on sale in October.
December 13 in Berkeley (First Church of Christ Scientist)
December 14 in San Francisco
Spring 2026: This springtime program called “Dreams of a Better World” presents musical prophecies and dreams for a renewed, better world for all. The musical centerpiece is Rosephanye Powell’s The Cry of Jeremiah, a stunning four-movement work for chorus and narrator. The Cry of Jeremiah melds classical and gospel styles with the story of a prophet who bridges the Judaic, Christian and Islamic liturgical traditions. Other works on the program include settings of Langston Hughes’ “I Dream a World” and other related texts. Tickets go on sale in January.
April 18-19 in East Bay and San Francisco
June 2026: PEV is unique among Bay Area choral groups for presenting an annual set of a cappella Jazz & Pop concerts to end every season - and has done so since its founding in 1980. The June 2026 set will be hosted again by Deke Sharon, the Pitch Perfect producer who launched the modern-day vocal a cappella movement. Returning by popular demand after last season’s guest appearance, Sharon will serve as concert emcee, arrangement collaborator and performance coach for these programs of wide-ranging music that have become PEV’s hallmark. Tickets go on sale in April.
June 4-7 in East Bay, San Francisco and Marin
